After reading Lizzy's post in her blog about Parabens, I thought I would investigate new skin care because my stinkin' $60 Lancome moisturizer (in addition to other products) has methylparaben in it.
The FDA gives a summary about parabens. They are used as preservatives and anti-microbials in cosmetics. It says that parabens are generally safe, but the FDA also approved Vioxx at one time, so go fig. I also suffer from mild-to-moderate tree-huggerism, so I am more or less up for anything more natural and organic involving the body. Maybe it's safe, maybe it's not, but I figure I may as well help myself as much as I possibly can.

Went to Kiehl's and had a hard time finding any of their products without any parabens in them. Hit the jackpot at L'Occit.ane. Found a foaming facial cleanser, a toner and a moisturizer. Woohoo! And for a lower price than I currently spend on beauty products. And at a more convenient location. Went to a gourmet grocery store and they had some products with and some without. Some had a label "Paraben free."
I also decided to go with Lizzy's recommendation on reading the book "Nurturing Yourself Through IVF" and the meditation CD "Healthy Journeys Guided Meditations" by Belleruth Naparstek. I am feeling like I am not coping as well as I could and perhaps this will help. My one IF book I have (The Infertility Survival Guide) recommends doing meditation and I figured I'd try one that someone else has tried instead of ordering a random product. Reviews for both were pretty good.

Hello, I found your blog through the Lost and Found and have been reading since. My story is very similar with the male factor infertility. I wanted to suggest another meditation CD specifically for an IVF cycle. You can find more about it at http://www.anjionline.com/SupportandControlforyourIVFCycle.php
I found it sooo helpful during my 2nd IVF cycle (and this one actually worked!). It has four tracks that correlate to what stage of the IVF you're experiencing. It helped me to really conect to what my body was doing and visualize what was going on. If you have any questions about it or anything else, feel free to e-mail me at aotexas@gmail.com.
I can also totally relate to your bookclub post. Last year was tough with both my sisters pregnant (one not married) and many friends announcing pregnancies. You just get to a point where nothing makes sense and all of your grace goes out the window! :)
Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to reading more about your journey!
Hi Kaaron!
I've been looking for parabens in my Dove products and haven't found them. I'll look some more just to be sure.
I suffer from moderate to severe tree huggerism. :)
GL!

Wow! I'm very flattered. *hug*
I really hope the book & cd help you as much as they've helped me. I also hope you enjoy your new paraben-free products as much as I'm enjoying mine. Isn't it funny how they are actually more available, less expensive, and actually nicer than the really high-end expensive products? I was so sad throwing some stuff away, but have found that my new natural products are so refreshing. They smell nice and feel wonderful. My skin has actually cleared up much better, too!! And that's just from a few day's use.
Wow that's some food for thought!
